The Well is a building type in Pharaoh.

General Information[]

A source of fresh drinking water is a basic human requirement. Wells provide drinking water to nearby housing, allowing them to take the first step in housing evolution from crude huts to evolve into sturdy huts, although higher-level housing requires water supplies to evolve from common shanties to ordinary cottages and further.

Wells may only be built on grassy areas, as this is where groundwater can be drawn from. They require no workers, and instead passively grant water to housing within a two-tile radius. They do not need road access, and aren't at risk to fire or collapse. They are very slightly desirable buildings.

As water supplies do everything wells can do and more, wells are not a necessity for more ambitiously-developed residential areas of the city. However, wells can provide rudimentary drinking water for poorer areas as well as areas that are just beginning to be built.
