The Water Supply is a building type in Pharaoh.

General InformationEdit

Some of the earliest buildings available, water supplies provide the essential service of distributing water to the city, allowing crude huts to evolve into sturdy huts, and common shanties to evolve into rough cottages. While they do not impact city health (as the manual claims) directly by providing "cleaner" water, they do reduce the risk of disease indirectly due to their ability to upgrade housing to a higher level (higher level housing have lower rates of disease).

Water supplies are similar to Wells in the sense that they provide water to housing, allowing for the most basic housing evolution. Water supplies have many advantages, however. They can upgrade common shanties, which wells can't; they provide walkers, which gives the potential to service far more housing than wells; whereas wells can only support housing close to grass, water supplies can provide water to housing that's deeply placed into dry land. On the other hand, water supplies require employment, road access, and are larger, making them more cumbersome to use.

Water supplies are "upgraded" when the area they are in becomes desirable enough. When this happens, they take on a different appearance (with pillars surrounding the pool of water), and begin sending out water carriers more often.

Water supplies are somewhat desirable to live close to. Considering how essential they are to city health and housing evolution, water supplies are practically a requirement for all residential areas.
