The Liao Empire is an enemy faction that appears during Emperor: Rise of the Middle Kingdom.
Background[]
The Liao Empire becomes an enemy of China shortly after the founding of the Song Dynasty. During Pingyao, they will invade fairly early and are the other main enemy that must be fought, alongside the traitorous Jinyang, who are enlisting the help of the Khitan of the North.
During Chengdu, they invade further, through their capturing of the Song's capital of Kaifeng, for which the player is required to push them back. They later invade during the second Kaifeng mission.
The Khitan can invade during the creation of a new capital city for the Jin Dynasty, but they disappear from the map after the completion of Zhongdu.
