The Scribal School is a building type in Pharaoh.

General InformationEdit

Scribal schools provide a level of education to the surrounding housing. For the last three highest stages of housing, both scribal schools and libraries must be built. Scribal Schools require papyrus in order to run, and can hold up to 200 units of it. Once it receives enough papyrus, it sends teachers into the surrounding neighborhoods. Building an Altar of Thoth at Ptah's Temple Complex reduces the amount of papyrus scribal schools consume.

Scribal schools operate somewhat differently from other service-oriented buildings in that they only affect children. As a certain amount of the population needs to be serviced by scribal schools for culture ratings to grow, the amount of scribal schools needed for a high culture rating tends to decrease over time as the population ages.

In addition to providing education, having sufficient scribal school coverage of the city is required to increase Culture Rating. Scribal schools are required to reach even very low culture rating thresholds. For "perfect" coverage, one scribal school is required for every 300 children--this, in turn is impacted heavily by the age demographics of a city's population. A considerably aged population could have as many as 2,000 or more people per 300 children, while a very young population could have as little as 800 or fewer people per 300 children.

Scribal schools are desirable to live next to. They are extremely prone to catching fire--in fact, they are tied with libraries for being the most flammable buildings in the game.
