Jiaozhou is a mission found in Emperor: Rise of the Middle Kingdom.

Briefing Edit

It was a mere three generations ago that your humble ancestor laid the foundation for Chang-an. Now, under the guiding hand of Emperor Wu Di, Chang-an is a great city ruling an expanding empire.

Far to the south, over the Yangzi, the land of Annam again beckons our people. It was not long ago, during the time of Qin, that our people first penetrated into the forbidding jungles of this land -- only to come stumbling back when the walls of the Qin collapsed. Now, during the reign of the great Wu Di, the empire's border again reaches southward. Now is the time to establish a permanent residence in this fertile region.

Even though you will be far from the heart of the Han Empire, you must remember to pay ceaseless homage to our ancient heroes. Build a strong city, for the local people still do not understand the ways of our fathers, and the meaning of civilization.

Remember: a tree with deep roots will not topple when a strong wind blows.

Goals Edit

  • 30 Months of Heroes
  • 2500 people in Ornate Apartment or better
  • 80 people in Impressive Compound or better

Summary Edit

In this mission, we are heading back to the land of Annam to build a permanent residence in this region, but the goals mean that a rather large city is needed.

Start the construction in the normal manner. Try to construct the city towards the top end of the map, since the Alligators on this map can easily get into the city and disrupt the movement of goods. You'll need to get started fairly quickly, because there is a scripted invasion not long after the Kingdom of Nanyue is discovered and they will also send Spies, since they are also scripted to go Hostile.

You'll find that you can fish and grow Rice. However, most of the straight line coast for the Fishing Quays is in the south, so you need to develop an efficient system to deliver the fish to your Mill. If you don't want to use fish, consider opening a trade route with Yin to import additional food types.

Chang-an will open trade when requested. They sell Wheat, which can be used to get the city going in the early years. You need to make an early profit from the production of Lacquerware, since you cannot import Jade from any cities. While importing the Wheat, it is recommended to import some Salt from either Guangzhou or Fuzhou, though it is highly recommended to open trade only with Fuzhou, as Guangzhou neither sells or buys anything that other cities cannot purchase or sell. Again, the Trading Quays for these water trade routes must be in the Southern section of the city.

Reaching the Common Housing goal should not be too difficult. You will need a minimum of four Elite Housing to reach the goal. Since there is no monument, nor a Menagerie Goal, there is no particular reason to call Nu Wa or Xi Wang Mu, though the latter can be useful to export Carved Jade early, due to her ability to bless Jade Carver's Studios.

The only goal that will probably be holding you back is the Months of Heroes. Just keep offering gifts of homage to the gods, but don't forget those Ancestor Heroes!
